چکیده

Climbers influence the diversity and composition of forest ecosystem immensely. We have investigated floristic climbing plants in tropical forests Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR), Odisha, India. A total 120 climber plant species belonging to 74 genera 33 families were documented all forests. Among families, most speciose Fabaceae (25 species) Convolvulaceae (22 followed by Cucurbitaceae (11 species), Vitaceae (8 Dioscoreaceae (7 etc. Similarly, dominant Ipomoea possessing highest number i.e., 9 Dioscorea Vigna (6 Cissus (4 There was a remarkable difference noted structure mechanism different climbers. The SBR not only contributing overall biodiversity significantly but also maintain ecological balance whole ecosystem. are major resource economic value around biosphere reserve thus their use sustainable management must be given principal attention.

Occurrence of culturable soil fungi in a tropical moist deciduous forest Similipal Biosphere Reserve, Odisha, India

Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR) is a tropical moist deciduous forest dominated by the species Shorea robusta . To the best of our knowledge their rich biodiversity has not been explored in term of its microbial wealth. In the present investigation, soil samples were collected from ten selected sites inside SBR and studied for their physicochemical parameters and culturable soil fungal diversi...

Antimicrobial, Anthelmintic, and Antiviral Activity of Plants Traditionally Used for Treating Infectious Disease in the Similipal Biosphere Reserve, Odisha, India

In the present study, we tested in vitro different parts of 35 plants used by tribals of the Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR, Mayurbhanj district, India) for the management of infections. From each plant, three extracts were prepared with different solvents (water, ethanol, and acetone) and tested for antimicrobial (E. coli, S. aureus, C. albicans); anthelmintic (C. elegans); and antiviral (en...

Beta diversity of angiosperms in the tropical forests of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, India

The paper aims to evaluate the beta diversity in homogeneous and heterogeneous habitats in tropical forests. Also, the relationship between beta diversity and richness in the rain forests and monsoon forests is elucidated. The study was conducted in a forest landscape of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in the Western Ghats of India. The Wilson and Shmida index was used to assess the beta diversity of...

Composition and Stand Structure of Tropical Moist Deciduous Forest of Similipal Biosphere Reserve, Orissa, India

Tropical forests are highly productive, structurally complex, genetically rich renewable genetic resources (Roy et al., 2002). The tropical deforestation contributes to increase in atmospheric CO2 and other gases affecting the climate and biodiversity. Though such type of forests occupy less than 7% of the land surface, there have the higher distinction of harbouring 50% of all plant and animal...

Ecological significance of core, buffer and transition boundaries in biosphere reserve: A remote sensing study in Similipal, Odisha, India

Protected areas and national parks need periodic assessment and monitoring for evaluating natural resources, effectiveness of management and studying the effects of global climate change. The present work has been undertaken to prepare the multi-date vegetation density maps in terms of Normalised vegetation index (NDVI) and to monitor the changes in and around the areas close to transition, buf...
